FIRE-RATED METALLIC-EFFECT ALLOY FOR THERMOFORMING OF AIRCRAFT INTERIOR COMPONENTS

BLOOMSBURG, PA—A new "Kydex® 110" grade of fire-rated thermoplastic alloy for thermoforming of aircraft interior components features integral metallic-effect colors, it was announced by Richard Cort, VP Sales and Marketing, Kleerdex Company, LLC.

The proprietary sheet meets Federal Aviation Authority's FAR 25.853 paragraph (a) requirements and is offered in thicknesses from .028 to .500 in (0.7mm to 12.7mm), and five metallic-effect colors: Copper, Bronze, Pearl, Silver and Ductile Gold.

Because the metallic-effect color is integral, the sheet is said to retain its metallic appearance if scratched or gouged.

KYDEX 110 sheet reportedly exhibits outstanding impact resistance, modulus of elasticity, rigidity, dimensional stability and electrical resistance, as well as extreme formability and hot tear strength, making it suitable for vacuum and pressure forming of aircraft interior components such as: armrests, bulkhead laminates, tray tables, galley parts, instrument panels, life vest shrouds, lighting housings, passenger service units, toilet shrouds, sidewall panels and window reveals.

"No other thermoformable, aircraft-rated sheet product with a metallic appearance offers the mechanical properties and chemical resistance of KYDEX 110 sheet," claims Cort adding, "The sheet is unsurpassed in its resistance to harsh cleansers, allowing repeated cleaning with no staining or fading."

Secondary operations possible include machining, sawing, shearing, die cutting, drilling, blanking, punching, brake forming, sanding and polishing. In addition, the sheet can be joined to itself or to other materials using hot gas welding, hot blade welding, solvent cementing, and mechanical fastening.

Other specialized grades of fire-rated sheet for aircraft interiors offered by the company include: KYDEX 100, 154, 200, 1900, 5555, 6185, 6200, 6565, and T.

KYDEX thermoplastics are extruded in ISO 9002/14001 registered facilities.
