KYDEX® PROTECTIVE SHEET MATCHES WOODGRAIN
PATTERNS
OF GEORGIA-PACIFIC TFM, RENOLIT RTF
BLOOMSBURG,
PA—Kydex® WG protective thermoplastic sheet is offered
in new woodgrain patterns that match thermofused melamine boards
of Georgia-Pacific Corporation and rigid thermofoils of American
Renolit Corporation.
Coordinated matching programs enable specifiers to utilize two
or more types of surfacing material on the same end product according
to each component’s design, production method and level of
abuse.
Kydex WG heavy-gauge woodgrain sheet is suitable for flat-laminating,
miter-folding and post-forming applications as well as for membrane
pressing of routed three-dimensional substrates.
It consists of a woodgrain cap film that is permanently fused to
a Kydex substrate of complementary color serving to camouflage any
severe gouges penetrating the cap. The composite has a thickness
of 0.042” (1.05mm).
Kydex WG sheet offers extreme resistance to impact and general
abuse encountered in commercial, institutional and retail environments,
making it suitable for flat and three-dimensional surfacing of horizontal
work surfaces, kick panels, support bases and other failure-prone
components of office furniture, store fixtures, retail displays,
medical furniture, exhibits, kiosks and other products requiring
toughness and/or cleanliness.
The protective sheet will not crack, break, or chip, and offers
UL 94 V-0 and Class 1/A fire ratings as well as Notched Izod impact
resistance of 15 ft-lbs/in (795 J/m), tensile strength of 6100 psi
(42 Mpa) and flexural strength of 9600 psi (66 Mpa).
The
formability of Kydex WG sheet allows membrane pressing of flat and
three-dimensional wood core components, enabling designers to create
high style, ergonomic shapes containing fine details, intricate
profiles, sharp edges and/or rounded corners that avert injury and
resist damage.
Membrane pressing is accomplished by pressing a heated plastic
sheet onto a flat or routed wood substrate using a membrane, causing
the sheet to conform to all top and side surfaces of the substrate.
Edge banding seams associated with conventional surfacing materials
are eliminated, increasing the durability and cleanability of components
while expanding design possibilities; compound curves can be achieved
to simulate solid, quarter-sawn hardwoods that have been machined.
Kydex WG woodgrain patterns matching Georgia Pacific TFMs and/or
American Renolit RTFs include: Pearwood, Riga Birch, Black Cherry,
Wild Apple, Spiced Fruitwood and Honey Maple. Five proprietary woodgrains
are also offered as standard, with custom woodgrains also available.
Kydex sheet is also offered as standard in granite patterns, fluorescents,
metallics and 34 solid colors as well as 2500 custom colors, in
thicknesses from .028’ to .500” (0.7mm to 12.7mm), 10
surface textures and fire rated grades that meet building product,
aircraft, mass transit, electrical and general industrial requirements.
