Assuming that the Mayans were mistaken, we will soon be entering a new year. For most of us, this is a time for reflection, planning, and promises to ourselves and others for ‘change’.
The same is true for our company. We enter into 2013 as a grateful organization, but one ready for change. I am grateful to my 190 dedicated and passionate associates. And our entire team is grateful to you – for specifying, selecting, stretching, forming, fabricating, pressing, punching, printing, processing, bending, bonding or otherwise putting KYDEX® sheet to the test.
While grateful, we know we have to change. Why? Because we must earn your business every day.
In today’s environment, change is the new normal. It is constant. Good companies follow the change. Great companies embrace the change. At KYDEX, we challenge ourselves to START the change.
In our products, service and support, we need to improve. Our customers come back to us time and time again and tell us how much they appreciate our products, service and support. But, that was yesterday. Today, we need to ‘raise the bar’. Expect more. Deliver more. Create more. Drive the change that brings new ideas, new solutions and new opportunities to (and for!) our customers.
It is no secret that the ‘speed of innovation’ and rate of change in today’s business environment is unprecedented.
Change is inevitable. Growth from that change is optional.
I choose to grow. Will we make mistakes? Certainly. But the message I share with our passionate employees is that I will challenge them more if they are NOT making mistakes. From mistakes, we gain knowledge. From knowledge come ideas. Ideas spark innovation. Innovation leads to new products. New products create change. Change for our customers. Change for the industries we serve.
We need to push ourselves, challenge the technology and look outside our industry and inside ourselves for ideas that spark innovation. We encourage ‘new’. New ideas. New products. New service paradigms.
New. It is the year. It is the opportunity. It is our culture.
We encourage you to join us on this journey of change. We embrace collaboration. We ask you to challenge us. Will we be able to do everything? No. But, we can certainly try and encourage you to challenge us. We may not always like what we hear. But, we promise to listen and learn.
Again – thank you for your continued support and confidence in our products and people.
Wishing you a joy-filled holiday and a new year filled with inspiration and innovation,
Ronn Cort, President
Light and colour are now free to roam the cabin, and aviation interior design will never be the same. KYDEX, LLC was proud to launch the aviation industry’s first fully-compliant coloured translucent thermoplastic sheet at Aircraft Interiors Expo Americas, in Seattle, Washington. KYDEX® FST CTL debuted earlier this year at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg.
“At KYDEX, we understand the challenges designers face in industries like aviation, particularly that design-forward products must also meet industry compliance,” said Ronn Cort, president of KYDEX. “We are excited about the possibilities that coloured translucent sheet brings to the industry and look forward to collaborating with our customers on new solutions that enhance the customer experience.”
KYDEX FST® CTL is the first coloured translucent thermoplastic sheet to meet the compliance mandates of the aviation industry. The line was also specifically formulated to meet all Boeing and Airbus toxicity requirements for aircraft interior components. Like all KYDEX solutions, the new translucents are durable, cleanable and formulated to hold the “like new look” through many flights.
The design advantages are endless. Dividers that once blocked light can now refract and reflect it. Passengers can enjoy privacy without feeling walled in or isolated. Cabin classes can feature different lighting schemes within a unified whole. LED lighting can be used to its maximum advantage to create varying moods for different segments of the flight, from boarding to meal service to sleep time. And the airline brand becomes a living experience of light, motion and emotion, from exhilarating to comforting.
KYDEX FST® CTL is available in eight colours including Aurora Bourealis (green), Velocity (red), Rainbow (purple), and Turbulent (gray) among others. It all starts at the KYDEX designLabTM, your center for collaboration, customization and total satisfaction.
The new line of coloured translucent sheet furthers the KYDEX mission of collaborating with customers to provide innovative solutions. The launch of KYDEX FST® CTL follows the launch of a new 64-colour palette earlier this year, the appointment of Ronn Cort to KYDEX president in July, and the appointment of longtime KYDEX team member Mike Karr to director of operations in September.

Our designLab™ exists to anticipate and respond to what our customers need. So, it’s no surprise that when the largest American manufacturer of ambulances needed a replacement for interior components for their product line, KYDEX was there with a custom solution.
The vehicles used in saving lives work almost as hard as the EMTs who work in them. The insides take on a lot of abuse: from gurneys, mobile instruments and harsh cleaners. Surfaces traditionally outfitted with high pressure laminate (HPL) were not standing up to the aggressive environment and were showing wear and tear as HPL commonly does; surfaces were delaminating, chipping and breaking and staining. Replacement frequency and cost were not acceptable, especially when considering precious lost time with vehicles out of service.
The solution? A specialty custom blend of KYDEX® high-impact thermoplastic sheet with Microban® Antimicrobial Product Protection. KYDEX also created a brand new custom palette of nine soothing colors, eight featuring an integral granite effect. A demo vehicle is currently in production and KYDEX was there to fine tune installation procedures.
We would love to see how we can help you at our designLab™. It’s your center for collaboration, customization and complete satisfaction. Contact us at info@kydex.com.
